PLANNING TECHNICIAN - TEMPORARY 14 month maternity leave contract, with possibility of extension The Planning Technician is responsible for all aspects of land use planning, including processing applications under the Ontario Planning Act for Official Plan, Zoning By-law, Site Plans, municipal subdivisions and plans of condominium and provides planning advice, opinions and interpretations on relevant legislation by preparing reports and memoranda to Council, Committee of Adjustment, Advisory Committees of Council. Applicants will have the following minimum qualifications: • University Degree or College Diploma in Planning or a related field • Minimum 1-3 years previous experience in the field of Municipal Planning • Knowledge and understanding of Ontario’s land use planning system, specifically related to the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement and Growth Plan • Basic understanding of drafting, air photo interpretation, geographic information systems (GIS) and cartography • Intermediate mathematical skills to calculate percentages, ratios or averages and unitmeasure conversions • Experience using a wide range of computer programs such as: MDS (minimum distance separation requirements), MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), Autodesk-Mapguide, Adobe Acrobat, etc. • Valid Ontario Driver’s License with a clean drivers’ abstract. The successful candidate must provide a clean criminal record check.
