STATUS: Full time LOCATION: Optional (Peterborough, Barrie, Durham, Kingston) Cambium is a successful consulting and engineering company built on quality people doing great work in a rewarding environment. We are currently seeking a Senior Biologist/Ecologist to join our team in Peterborough and support projects related to wildlife surveys, ecological monitoring, habitat restoration, environmental monitoring and protection, and fisheries and fish habitat assessment projects. JOB DUTIES - Field work using established protocols as necessary to complete assessments of the natural environment. May include terrestrial, wetland and aquatic flora, fauna, species at risk and habitats, at a variety of scales. - Reporting on a variety of topics pertaining to the natural environment and potential impacts of development for submission to regulatory agencies, including making recommendations for best practice and industry standard mitigation measures. - Corresponding with regulatory agencies, municipal bodies and clients using written and verbal methods. - Contributing to general Cambium project tasks including: document review, invoicing of the project and attendance at meetings or conferences as applicable. - Keeping up to date with federal and provincial regulations pertaining to the natural environment that apply to job duties. - Leading and contributing to the preparation of proposals for future work. - Seeking opportunities and business development for future work among current contacts and the broader community. - Coordinating project tasks with Cambium staff and clients. - Adherence to health and safety protocols for self and support staff. - Working to meet internal and external deadlines may result in occasional evening and weekend work. QUALIFICATIONS (MANDATORY) - Minimum 5 years employment experience (preferably in consulting environment) - BSc. (minimum) in Biology, Ecology or similar - Experience preparing environmental impact studies/statements, natural heritage evaluations, and SAR assessments - Ecological Land Classification System for Southern Ontario Certification - Demonstrated experience with terrestrial and aquatic flora and fauna inventory and ID - Familiarity with regionally documented species at risk (SAR) - Familiarity with Conservation Authority permitting requirements and the Endangered Species Act (ESA; 2007) and regulations - Pleasure Craft Operators Card and Valid Driver's License - Proven technical writing skills - Demonstrated commitment to high quality client service - Leadership experience - Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills - Ability to work independently and in a team environment - Willingness to contribute to projects outside of specific area of expertise. QUALIFICATIONS (ASSETS) - Construction-related monitoring experience - Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control - Avian inventory protocols (audio and visual) - Fish inventory and habitat assessment procedures - Class 2 Backpack Electrofishing Certification (minimum) - Wildlife survey protocols - RAQs qualified - Competent in using GIS (ArcMap) - Experience with erosion and sediment control mitigation design/recommendations - Additional certifications (i.e. OWES, OBBN, OSAP, etc.) If you're interested, send us some information that helps us understand how you are the right fit for this role and for our team.
